Came to the concert at the Phil on Saturday and had a great time. Interested to see "Sheffield Gang Wars" on sale in the foyer. Read it some time ago because I remembered JP Bean. I was in a play of his (Arrested on a charge of being ugly - no, I wasn't the lead) in a tiny theatre at the top of Wilkinson Street in Sheffield back in the 70s. Another spooky link though was my Grandad who managed the Old Blue Bell on High Street during WW2 used to tell us that the Mooney Gang used to drink in there because when he was in the police force, he'd arrested members of the gang, but always used to give them a chance to run for it before catching them again. So they all thought he was a decent bloke. I've got mug shots of all of them to this day. Richard, took the trip to Bexhill on sea (who did put that on the fookin agenda?) to see you last week and done the hotel thing with the misses. What can I say? The set was superb and the accoustic at the Da la Warr were amazing. The attention to detail entralled us both and that voice of yours gets deep inside, I can tell you. Great new album too. Richard, I was at your gig in the Queen's Hall on Tuesday 14 Oct, and am still dreamily drifting and risking gooily gushing about it. When my days have been fraught, I listen to your music to drift me into restful sleep. I just love it that your sound live is a gazillion times more of everything it is on CD. When you sing it reminds me of being lifted up into the safety of my dad's arms when I was a wee girl (a long, long time ago...). I also particularly loved the way you played with us. First time i'd see richard in concert was last Wednesday night at Birmingham Town Hall. I've seen a lot of gigs in my time with some very big names, but that birmigham concert is really sticking with me. Was it just me, or was it really that good? I thought richard was sincere in telling us that it had been a good night. I'd like to mention that this was the first time I'd ever heard a musician talk to his audience as if we were real people. His appreciation of us spending our hard earned money really came from the heart. And then there was the music: the whole Truelove's Gutter album really came alive -beautifully sung, beautifully played and the selction of old stuff was excellent. I desperately wanted to hear Lady Solitude and that was the third song. I was trying to describe the music and the feeling I got from hearing it toa friend. My one overriding thought was that it had a Twin Peaks feel -otherwordly and really beautiful. Long may Richard continue!

My wife and I came to your concert in Bexhill last night and really enjoyed the performance. I'm just wondering if there was any aforethought to your swearing between songs for effect so to say, a little bit of northern rebellion. I'm a working class lad living here now. I came from a steel town, Port Talbot in S.Wales, and sometimes I feel I magnify my natural Welsh surliness to make a point of otherness, to rebel against this cosy part of England. For me swearing only belonged to mens environments, like the work place, sports field, working mens clubs etc, was it the same for you? Just a thought I had while watching the concert last night, you know that north-south thing. You might just be a person that swears a lot any way?

A simple note of thanks to you all for your show last night in Bexhill-on-Sea - it was just magnificent. The new material (TLG arrived from Amazon on Friday morning) is beautiful and the 2 hour journey through the gathering gloom with my wife and a daughter was somewhat fitting but a wholly worthwhile effort. I have seen Pink Floyd supported by Queen in Hyde Park, The Who supported by the Faces at the Oval, Bob Dylan, The Grateful Dead, The Stones, Ryan Adams, blah, blah... last night ranked in the top five to be sure. Hi Richard, Went to my first RH concert last night in Ipswich. I was really disappointed by the sound - at times it was heavily distorted and far too loud for such a venue. A musician friend of mine described the sound as a "mush" which was a real shame and probably accounted for quite a few people legging it before the end. I'm not a musician, but have 30 years experience in professional radio. I hope you get it sorted for the rerst of the tour - I wish I had spent my £20 on a couple of CDs rather than the concert ... and I really like your music!

Two weeks ago I listened by chance to your Open Up Your Door on Spain´s Radio Nacional Station (Radio 3) while I was driving, and, for a moment, I just forgot I was behind the wheel, so beautiful the song seemed to me. Saw the concert in Manchester last night. Absolutely brilliant as always. The new album is sounding fantastic live. Slightly marred by some mad woman shrieking that she wanted to dance but Richard was able to put her in her place!! Looking forward to the concert at The Crucible in December!

I came to see you at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester (awesoime building) last night. I haven't been a fan of your for long, only have Coles Corner and Lady's Bridge albums at the moment. I heard you on the radio a few weeks ago talking about the Little Mesters in Sheffield; I used to work for Yorkshire TV in Leeds and we made a short film for our programme First Tuesday about them in the mid 80's - I was a researcher at the time and spent some great days with them in their Dickensian workshops behind Coles. Sadly, me and my wife will be in York the week after your consert in october, but my question is: when will you be back in Norway? I heard you on "Herreavdelingen" with Finn Bjelke last year (or was it two years ago?) and he played "Vallentine" on the radio. After that I bought all yours records. My daughter did the same. Thank you very much for all your nice music.

Have been lucky enough to see you live in concert twice, with two more booked for this year ( Bridgewater Hall & The Crucible). I just love your music and the new album is every bit as magical as I'd expected. "For Your Lover Give Some Time" reminds me of the Jacques Brel inspired music Scott Walker did so well in the late sixties. The new website is great.

Hi Richard - I recall a couple of years ago, your appearance on Calendar. I will never forget the video set on Porthcurno....a beach that my parents took me to as a kid...what a great place! Within my quest as a music memorabillia collector, I scour the sunday car boots...and to my surprise I purchased a box of old postcards...in there are a number of fantastic and very old postcards of the fishermans house, with residency! in black and white...my guess would be that these are over 50 years old. I'm attending your Crucible show on the 5th of Dec...and as I know you like your history and you especially like Porthcurno and the Minnack theatre, I'd willingly trade the postacrds in return for shaking your hand and maybe acquring your signature...please. By the way my close work colleague and former school friend of yours and Uncle of Alex Turner...John McCann would like to say hello two. Listened to Truelove's Gutter for the first time last night, and thought it was utterly majestic. The entire album should be released as a single, it all flows together so well, and it leaps into first place as my contender for album of the year, which is saying something because there's been some pretty good stuff released so far. Looking forward to the first night of the tour at the wonderful Picturedrome in Holmfirth, listening to tracks new and old while drinking a pint or two of the cask Timothy Taylor's Landlord bitter that they serve there. Happy days!

I love your music saw you at the Birmingham symphony hall and enjoyed every second of it! I also attempt to write songs my influences must be very similar to yours.You manage to capture the mood I try so hard to create,on every album you have recorded there is always at least one song that brings a tear to my eye and yet again on your new album the song " For your Lover give some time " this song describes to me exactly what me and my other half go through we forget sometimes to make time for our mrs and they do us too thanks for writing so many great songs will be there on 7th Oct Birmingham town hall cant wait!
