Can’t believe what I’ve just read about Richards appearance on Loose Ends. I too had never heard of Richard Hawley before hearing on there but was so blown away by his performance that I immediately went to search out more of his work. The point of Loose Ends is that the content covers the very widest spectrum of all the arts thus enabling listeners to sample loads of stuff they may never have come across otherwise. Clive Anderson is a perfect host for the program. He is funny, very broadly educated in the arts and good at getting the best out of all the guests. Nobody, even he can have heard of absolutely everybody on the music scene but he was obviously well impressed by Richard from his reaction afterwards. Once you have listened to him for a bit you can soon tell whether he actually likes an act or not and he clearly enjoyed Richard’s performance. Frankly I’m guessing that Clive Anderson knows more about the arts, including music, than Terry Lee will ever know and can express himself much more eloquently without having to resort to crude swearing. Grow up!

I’m also a convert from the Loose Ends performance. He played two songs: “For your lover give some time” and…? Can anyone help? I’d love to hear it again.

  3. Allan (Edinburgh) says:

Was at Queens Hall Edinburgh last week, one of the best, even better than the recordings. Trueloves Gutter is great it just eats into your soul. Lyrics that speak reality, a guitar that gives you goose bumps and a voice that just washes over you. Your albums just get better and better . Thanks

Justin Lee Collins was blown away wasn’t he ?
There is a magic in your music Richard. I remember buying Coles Corner and standing at my window listening to it for the first time at home. I had that warm feeling of spine tingling bliss you get sometimes and your songs stayed with me from morning till night (and sometimes in my dreams) for months and months afterwards. They all seemed to roll into one long piece, all connected to form a sort of intense 24 hour symphony. Bliss !
Will see you again at the Albert Hall Nottingham tonight. 11th Sept 09.

  6. Greg from Brest (Brittany/France) says:

I discovered your music with your first EP in 2001 and I think your music goes better and better,True love’s gutter is on my top Ten albums with Closer of Joy Division, A love supreme of Coltrane,Is a woman of Lambchop and some more…
Hope to see you soon in France and maybe in Brest

Thanks for the pleasure you always give me

  9. Blue Wombat says:

your music lifted my soul as I drove home along the M6 listening to loose ends. A delight. Thank you.

  10. Terry Lee says:

Lovely stuff. Couldn’t agree more with the comments about Clive Anderson. What a c*nt.

  11. Gael Timbers says:

I heard you on the radio driving home. Time stopped, spellbinding. Your lyrics brought tears to my eyes. Absolutely beautiful. It was also lovely to hear that I was not the only one moved by your acoustic performance, judging by the response in the studio. I have never heard of you before this appearance, but will be avidly looking for your music to listen to again. Thank you for making me feel happy.

  12. brian thomson says:

Clive Anderson Sounded as if he had never heard of richard hawley and had no idea of the music he was playing. He sounded totally ignorant of such a talented musician and songwriter. I must admit that I am similar and see little talent in MR Anderson.

  13. James Kirby says:

I admit I had never heard of Richard Hawley – my loss – and I don’t often listen to loose ends, but I just heard him on the programme and it was a delight! A revelation! I’m going shopping for some of his audio now! Many thanks, a new pleasure in my life! Jim. xxx
